Today the Chancellor of the Exchequer presented his Spring Budget, an update on the Government’s taxation and spending plans.
Commenting on the Spring Budget, CEO of Surviving Economic Abuse, Nicola Sharp-Jeffs said: “The rising cost of living crisis on top of decades of under-funding of domestic abuse services is leaving victim-survivors without access to lifesaving support. Worryingly, there was no mention of funding for local authorities in today’s Budget to help keep domestic abuse services’ doors open when victim-survivors need them most.
“Without these vital services, victim-survivors will be left trapped with the abuser with no support. That’s why we’re calling on the Government to set out funding for specialist domestic abuse services. This must include specialist economic advocacy support so survivors can regain economic safety and stability after escaping the perpetrator.”
